Green Fair on the Fox 10am-4pm
August 13, 2016
Downtown Batavia’s annual festival to celebrate all things “eco” returns for its 9th year, rain or shine, from 10am – 4pm on August 13. Over 60 vendors will take over the Batavia River Walk, Peg Bond Center, and City Hall showcasing green products and services.
The theme of this year’s event is Change One. The goal is for every attendee to walk away with at least one simple change he/she can make to be a bit greener this year. While one change might seem insignificant to the individual, when multiplied by the number of attendees at the fair, the impact will be huge!
Take part in the Change One Raffle at the fair. Participating vendors will have Change One Raffle Tickets at their booths with custom simple changes. Attendees can collect as many tickets as they can commit to. Fabulous prizes await the lucky winners!
A new element to this year’s fair will be a demo tent in the center of the outdoor expo area. A number of vendors will pop over to do quick 10 minute demonstrations on their products or services for passersby.
The morning will start with lots of action as the Batavia Park District leads a free Zumba class on the Peg Bond stage. Registration will begin at 9am and the 1-hour class gets rocking right at 9:30. The dancing continues with a showcase from Sole Unique and then an action packed martial arts demo. The afternoon will feature the acoustic musical stylings of Greg Boerner, Ken Slauf, and our fair emcee, Joe B.
At 10am and 12pm, The Kayakers will be holding forward stroke clinics on land with a chance to practice on the beautiful Batavia Depot Pond. The focus will be on correct bio-mechanics and incorporate core muscles and legs to maneuver the kayak.
The Alternative Transportation Show returns with a lineup of hybrid and electric cars, including the award winning Supermileage car from Northern Illinois! The Chicago Herpetological Society is once again bringing a live reptile exhibit to City Hall providing a rare opportunity for attendees to come up close and personal with these rare animals.
New this year is a bicycle swap hosted by the Batavia Bicycle Commission. People are encouraged to bring their bikes or related accessories, gear, or parts from 9am-10am. Lots of bikes and accessories in all sizes will be on hand during the fair to help those that may have outgrown their bikes or just need a bicycle. Any unclaimed items and fees collected will be donated to the Bikes for Batavia program. For more information click here.
The fair will also feature a Clothing Swap for women’s clothes inside the Peg Bond Center. For $2, attendees can fill a grocery bag with clothes. Or, all donated bags earn a voucher for a bag at the fair. All proceeds and left overs will go to the Batavia Interfaith Food Pantry and Clothes Closet.
The event would not be possible without the generous support of our sponsors: Aurora Chiropractic, Limestone Production Group, Davey Trees, Gerald Subaru, Northwestern Medicine, Physicians Immediate Care, Prairie Wellness Counseling Center, Rocktown Adventures, Shine, and Sole Unique.
We are still looking for help the day of the event!

Will you Change One?
The Batavia Environmental Commission (BEC) and Batavia MainStreet are excited to announce the Change One Campaign! The purpose of this campaign is to inspire individuals, organizations and businesses to Change One thing to make their lives more eco-friendly. One change may seem insignificant to the individual, but when multiplied across a city full of people, our impact can be huge!
We are looking to the business community to help by committing to Change One thing as well and help build awareness around this initiative.
We have a number of ideas of things you can do at home or at work. We would like you all to pick one, and then pose for a picture with that commitment written on it – just like Batavia MainStreet’s Jamie, Cathy and Luke here! We’ll post it on social media with a plug for your organization! (Here are a few ideas to get you started!)
If your whole business would like to commit to Change One, then we would like to place a poster in your window to let the masses know of your good work! We will have these posters available next week for you to write in your change.
Thank you for your consideration!
We are excited this year to introduce the Demonstration Tent at Green Fair on the Fox.
Throughout the day different people will be demonstrating cool green ideas, concepts, products and lifestyle changes. Don’t miss it, right in the center of the Peg Bond lawn!
